Texas Ranks Among Top States for Young Homeownership (Featured)

The Lone Star State has emerged as one of the top three states in the country with the highest number of young adult homeowners, according to a new analysis by Chandan Economics based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

Texas stands out for having one of the highest numbers of households headed by individuals under the age of 35. The state is home to approximately 814,000 homeowners and 1.7 million renters in that age group, highlighting its strong appeal to younger residents seeking both rental and ownership opportunities.

Chandan Economics noted that while states with larger populations naturally tend to have more young adult homeowners, a more insightful metric is the proportion of early-age homeowners relative to all households. This ratio offers a clearer picture of how young adults are shaping both the home purchase and rental markets.

Texas’ housing affordability, robust job market, and diverse urban and suburban options likely contribute to its attractiveness for young adults looking to buy or rent. As affordability remains a nationwide challenge, Texas’ position as a top state for young homeownership could serve as a model for understanding how demographic trends influence housing markets.
