KFC Moves U.S. Headquarters from Kentucky to Texas in Strategic Brand Revamp (Doing Business in Texas)

In a bold strategic move, Yum! Brands has announced that the U.S. headquarters for KFC will be relocated from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas. This decision, part of a broader plan to designate two brand headquarters in the U.S.—the other located in Irvine, California—aims to foster greater collaboration among brands and drive sustainable growth for the iconic restaurant chain.

Yum! Brands CEO David Gibbs emphasized that the relocation will enhance the company's competitive advantage as it seeks to remake the KFC brand. “These changes position us for sustainable growth and will help us better serve our customers, employees, franchisees, and shareholders,” Gibbs stated. He added, “Ultimately, bringing more of our people together on a consistent basis will maximize our unrivaled culture and talent as a competitive advantage. I’m confident this is another important step in growing our iconic restaurant brands globally.”

The relocation will involve transferring KFC U.S. corporate office employees, currently based in Louisville, to the KFC and Pizza Hut Global headquarters in Plano. U.S.-based remote employees are also expected to relocate to this campus, further uniting the workforce. Despite this significant move, Yum! Brands and the KFC Foundation will retain corporate offices in Louisville to honor the brand’s deep-rooted history in Kentucky. Additionally, Taco Bell and Habit Burger & Grill will remain headquartered in Irvine, California.

As a gesture of commitment to its legacy in Kentucky, Yum! Brands is also strengthening its local ties by providing a $1 million endowment to the College of Business at the University of Louisville. This endowment will fund Yum!-sponsored scholarships for students across Kentucky and further support the Yum! Center for Global Franchise Excellence. KFC also plans to maintain its brand presence in Louisville by developing a first-of-its-kind flagship restaurant.

With these strategic initiatives, Yum! Brands is set to revitalize its operational framework and continue its tradition of investing in American innovation and advanced manufacturing, ensuring that its iconic brands remain competitive on a global scale
