Texas continues to solidify its reputation as a business-friendly powerhouse, with 2,964,180 active business entities now registered in the state, according to an announcement by Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson. This marks an increase of 35,492 businesses since the beginning of the year, further reinforcing the state’s pro-business environment.

Texas continues to be a state where businesses can begin and grow,” said Secretary Nelson. This increase in the number of active business entities in the state is another indicator of our pro-business environment and reflects an optimism about doing business in Texas.”

The total number of active business entities includes both Texas-based companies and out-of-state entities conducting business in the state. The most common classification is limited liability companies (LLCs), which account for over 2 million businesses.

The state's business landscape has seen tremendous growth over the past decade. In January, the Secretary of State’s office reported that the number of Texas business entities had nearly doubled in just ten years, surging from 1.47 million to 2.93 million.

Beyond business registrations, the Texas Secretary of State’s office plays a vital role in supporting entrepreneurs. In fiscal year 2024, the office facilitated more than 12 million interactions with the business community through filings, report processing, website transactions, phone calls, and emails.
