Austin Ranks Among Top 10 Cat-Friendly Cities in the U.S. (Live in Texas)

Austin, Texas, has been ranked the eighth-best city in the U.S. for cat lovers, according to a new report by Insurify. Known for its high share of cat-friendly apartments and strong community resources for pet owners, Austin is quickly becoming a top choice for those prioritizing their pets’ needs. With a standout 90% of cat-friendly rentals and nearly 100 pet stores across the metro area, Austin offers plenty of options for feline-friendly living.

One of Austin’s notable advantages is its affordable pet insurance rates. According to Insurify’s pet insurance partner, Fletch, the average annual premium for cat insurance in Texas is $297—about 28% lower than the national average of $412. While the cost of cat-friendly rentals remains accessible, only 27% are available for $1,500 or less per month.

For those who prioritize humane practices, Austin’s pet sale laws discourage inhumane breeding and promote animal welfare. The city also has several no-kill shelters and rescues, creating a strong network for animal care and adoption.

Insurify’s analysis, which evaluated 100 of the nation’s largest cities, considered factors including access to pet-friendly apartments, veterinary services, pet stores, cat insurance costs, humane pet sale laws, and availability of no-kill shelters. The study found that Austin’s combination of affordable insurance, numerous cat-friendly rentals, and local support systems make it an excellent location for pet owners.

With its pet-friendly atmosphere and broad support for animal welfare, Austin continues to earn its reputation as a great place to live for cat lovers and their feline friends alike.
